MLB announces 2008 World Series umpires

New York, NY (Sports Network) – Tim Welke will serve as crew chief for the 2008 World Series, Major League Baseball announced on Tuesday.

The 25-year umpiring veteran will also be behind home plate for Game 1 on Wednesday in St. Petersburg, and heads a six-man crew that includes Kerwin Danley (1B), Fieldin Culbreth (2B), Tom Hallion (3B), Jeff Kellogg (LF) and Tim Tschida (RF).

For Welke, it is his fourth World Series following selections in 1996, 2000 and 2003. Tschida, Kellogg will see their third Fall Classic while Hallion, Danley and Culbreth are making their first appearances in baseball’s ultimate best-of-seven matchup.

All six umpires were assigned to a division series in 2008.
