Chivas midfielder Kljestan honored by U.S. soccer

Carson, CA (Sports Network) – Chivas USA midfielder Sacha Kljestan was honored as U.S. Soccer’s Young Male Athlete of the Year on Thursday.

Kljestan represented the United States at the Olympics and played on the senior national team in four CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers.

“I’m very proud to have won the award this year, and I know that some great players have been named Young Male Athlete of the Year in the past,” Kljestan said.

After debuting with U.S. team in 2007, Kljestan earned a consistent place as a member of Bob Bradley’s squad this year. The 23-year old also led the Olympic team in scoring with two goals in three matches.

Kljestan also found success with Chivas USA during the club season, earning MLS Best XI honors for his efforts in helping the Los Angeles club into the Western Conference playoffs. He led Chivas in scoring and was named team MVP
